02/11/2017 - Churchill residents and businesses now enjoying better quality water supply

Irish Water has recently completed a €750,000 project which involved the construction of 5km of new water main and upgrade of the pumping station in Gartan to facilitate the connection of customers on the Churchill water supply to the more reliable and better quality supply from Letterkenny.

The project was progressed by Source Civil Limited on behalf of Irish Water working in partnership with Donegal County Council.

Water will now be delivered to the Churchill area from the Goldrum Water Treatment Plant thus enabling the decommissioning of the Churchill Water Treatment Plant.

Commenting, John McElwaine, Irish Water’s Capital Programmes Lead said: “The delivery of this project means that residents and businesses in Churchill will now enjoy a better quality and more reliable water supply as a result of these works. This will be welcomed locally and will improve drinking water quality for consumers in the Churchill and Gartan areas.”

The new water supply will deliver significant improvements in customer service in terms of security of supply and water quality to residents and businesses in Churchill.

The longer term work by Irish Water to upgrade Letterkenny’s Water Supply infrastructure also includes the construction of a new drinking water treatment plant at Goldrum which will be progressed in due course.
